Work
Vishal MahajanI aim to develop innovative and efficient solutions using machine learning. I have expertise in managing structured and unstructured data, big data analytics, and machine learning. I am trained in the domain of Transportation systems and Civil engineering, where I have identified and developed data science use cases, such as real-time mobility prediction, traffic prediction across cities, automated anomaly detection, calibration of large-scale simulations, and traffic risk prediction. My work in these areas is published in peer-reviewed international journals and on GitHub.
Hapag-Lloyd AG
Data Scientist, 2024 - presentI build analytics applications that enable efficient, sustainable, and reliable supply chains. This work involves applying data engineering and data science to develop and deploy big data analytics models and pipelines. I also focus on scaling, maintaining, and optimizing these pipelines, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful, data-driven solutions.
Technical University of Munich
Research Associate, 2019 - 2023I designed and implemented ETL pipelines for traffic and geospatial data from numerous sources and spearheaded the development of workflows for data quality improvement. I also led the design and development of machine learning pipelines for mobility analytics and traffic prediction.
During my tenure, I initiated and finished TraMPA project to address data insufficiency in mobility analyses. I developed and tested a scalable anomaly detection method for large traffic trajectory datasets. I also prototyped a workflow for the transfer of deep learning models for real-time mobility and traffic predictions. The ML-based methods were integrated to automate the calibration of large-scale black-box simulations.
Apart from the above, I managed the Chair's website, internal WIKI, on-premise server hardware and configuration, supervised students, and gave lectures for masters-level courses.
Fortiss GmbH
Machine Learning Student Assistant, 2018 — 2019I developed an Intelligent recommendation system to provide recommendations to AutoFocus3 users. To achieve this, I integrated the machine-learning pipeline with Java-based software tools for providing real-time recommendations.
National Highways Authority of India
Deputy Manager (Tech.), 2013 — 2017I was responsible for identifying pre-construction land acquisition and utility shifting issues and coordinating with the state and central authorities for their fast-track resolution. I took the initiatives to use data-driven insights to identify road safety issues, preparing and monitoring measures for their correction.
